Temporary Position Posting

The Michigan Nurses Association is seeking a Temporary Associate Director of the Michigan Nurses Foundation.  The assignment is anticipated to be for a one-year period and may extend beyond that time if necessary.

The Associate Director, Michigan Nurses Foundation is a strategic position that plays a key leadership role in The Foundation’s growth and operations.

The Director will oversee day-to-day operations of the Foundation including strategic planning, revenue growth, budgeting, and financial reporting to the Executive Director of Michigan Nurses Association.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a focus in relevant fields such as business, nonprofit management, healthcare or equivalent combination of education and experience as well as 5 years of relevant experience. Experience as a Registered Nurse or other healthcare professional preferred.  The candidate must exhibit strong leadership, communication, and people skills.  Demonstrated experience in fundraising and development and ability to collaborate with staff, Board of Directors, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders.  The key function of the position includes the following:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and staff develop, plan, and execute the foundation’s strategic plan to support its mission through growth and development strategies including a comprehensive fundraising and development strategy to fund the foundation’s activities.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and other stakeholders identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost savings, while also ensuring that the organization remains financially stable and sustainable for the long term.
  • Monitor and revise the foundation’s performance to the strategic plan on an ongoing basis, using feedback from stakeholders to adjust and make improvements as needed to ensure the foundation achieves its mission and goals.
  • Collaborate with the organization’s finance team to develop and monitor the organization’s annual budget in alignment with the organization’s goals and priorities.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting to the Board of Directors and provide detailed financial analysis and reporting, as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable fundraising regulations, including those related to donor privacy, tax regulations, and charitable solicitation laws.

The mission of the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is to represent professional registered nurses, as well as all members. Through the MNA, members shall act to educate, advocate, organize, and collectively bargain to promote professional practice, quality patient outcomes, and healthy communities.  The Michigan Nurses Foundation is an important part of the Michigan Nurses Association. The specific purposes of the Michigan Nurses Foundation are 1) to provide financial assistance to the treatment of nursing professionals and for education, charitable, and scientific research purposes; and 2) to engage in any lawful act for which nonprofit corporations may be organized under the Nonprofit Corporation Act of the State of Michigan which does not involve pecuniary gain or profit for its officers or directors. The objectives of this Foundation are to advance nursing and nursing education by awarding scholarships, research grants, and financial aid for the treatment of license/registered healthcare professionals.

The Michigan Nurses Foundation is organized exclusively for one or more of the purposes as specified in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, including the making of distributions to organization that qualify, as an exempt organization under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

The compensation range for the position is $97,000 to $134,000 and is commensurate with education and experience of the selected candidate.
